Just write. It's the most effective way to begin. Start with your activities this morning, how the first thing you did was go directly to the bathroom, before you even got dressed or started your breakfast. Then what did you do? What people did you run into? What conversations did you have? Try to remember the sequence of events and write all of it down. Use common English. Short sentences are best. Even a couple of quick paragraphs will be perfect. This is your chance to show yourself to others, just like a diary, through your writing. Then, go over what you have written. Pay attention to your word choice. Does what you wrote make sense to you? If you can, then you have begun your journey towards becoming a writer, which is one of the easiest and best jobs there are. Don't get what you've just written? Look at it one more time. Change things around, or replace one word with another. Remember, the dictionary and thesaurus are your friends. Don't neglect them! Another idea is to find a willing proof-reader. Can he or she make sense of what you've written? To develop writing skills, you must practice daily. The adage "practice makes perfect" is still true, especially with writing. Discipline yourself to set aside at least a half hour everyday to write. Write whatever comes to mind, describe what you see in detail. A good writer not only writes, but reads anything they can get their hands on. From novels, and catalgues, to celebrity gossip, ads in telephone directories, or world issues. Everything you read will become part of your arsenal of styles and vocabulary. Reading is a proven trait of all great writers, and will make you the best writer you can be. You can then begin to write articles. If you're not sure where to start, there are many books and websites with useful writing tips. Begin with accounts of everyday events or normal household items. Don't ever forget to follow these simple rules, and answer these questions: Who, What, Where, When, and How. There's a great chance that everything is covered when your article answers all of those questions. To profit monetarily from your writing, start by approaching publishers ad companies, offering them your services. They may need to see your qualifications, so keep a writing sample handy. The minute your writing gets published, you are almost there. But keep working. Keep improving. Never be satisfied with what you have written. Even if you have covered a topic once, try and see if you can write about the same topic in another way and from another perspective. This is another exercise that will only benefit you in the long run For additional motivation, look for a job at a local newspaper. The community administration center could even need writing staff for its periodicals. The opportunitys are boundless. From there, you should consider giving writing short stories a try. If correctly written, you can sell these to magazines for publication. You may want to try "blogging" which is an electronic diary. If you can take criticism, good and bad, it allows you to not only record your thoughts, but the criticism you receive can give you insight to your language, style, and mistakes. When you can identify your strengths and weaknesses, it will make you a better writer with each comment. Many young people nowadays love to read blogs.
